I shopped for a tent to set up indoors to let kids sleep in and pretend they were really camping.I also hoped to use it for actual backyardcamping (with adults) at some point, so I didn't want one that was exclusively a toy. Given how seldom I planned to use it, this looked like it would suit both purposes without breaking the bank.I was pleased with the durability and design but I was very disappointed that it did not come with directions or safety information and when I contacted the seller, I was advised that the manufacturer simply does not include directions with this tent.

The quality of this tent is on par with what you would expect from one designed for backcountry enthusiasts. You can't find that attention to detail in most 6 man tents. Nothing bad to say about it. I have a family of four, we wanted room to grow and have more than enough with this tent. Interior mesh pockets everywhere. Room enough to stand. The panoramic view from our backs was the nicest surprise. Love it! if you are car camping with kids this is a must have.

Wind Ridge Instant Tent Review

Wind Ridge Instant Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to believe the person responsible for the design of the tent must be an avid camper. Plenty of detail is in the structure including operation of the windows, multiple organization compartments, air flow , ect.
I chose the tent based on strict criteria. The tent must be less than 10 pounds to fit on the luggage rack on a motorcycle. The tent must be free standing and easy to erect under minimal light conditions. Another friend purchased the same tent. Both of us conducted pre-test to know how to erect the tents once in the field. My tent did not set up correctly in pre-test. One of the legs wanted to twist out preventing the complete erection (In the field the same situation occurred). The other tent had no erection difficulties in pre-test.
We conducted our field tested at the Thunder in the Mountains motorcycle rally. The area we were in was rock under the about an inch of soil. We were unable to use the stakes that came with the tents since they were not heavy duty enough for the conditions. Likewise, gusting winds up to 30 mph posed a problem with the tent setup. Under heavy winds the tents became airborne since the staking step follows erecting. We were able to use field procedures and secure the tents by tying to large rocks as a solution to staking. There are no instructions with the tent on the use of the rain fly. An experienced camper will be able intuitively attach the rain fly, however, my friend had to ask during pre-test what the purpose of the extra pole not being experienced in the realm of camping. With simple handling the stitching came out of the bottom of the stake bag. It may not seem like any big deal but an unsecured stake loose in the carrying bag could lead to a paint rub when attached to the motorcycle.
Part of my tent did collapse under the high winds. When re-erecting one of the poles split length wise however remained serviceable. The bath tub floor is a pro and con. I did encounter a puncture so I would recommend carrying a roll of duct tape. With the floor as the foot print, under muddy conditions you will be packing up the mess with the tent and soiling the top nylon portion. Both of us were able to pack up the tents and secure them back to the condition they were shipped. While cleaning the tent after the rally I noticed additional poles fracture at joints where the pole connects to the hinge.

Update: Tent went into the field during one of the worst and wet rallies. Pretty much eveything remained dry. The rain fly adequately covers the tent. Seams held tight. additionally cleaning of the tent is easy since it can be free standing. Nothing like cleaning dries horse manuer! I have used the tent for right at a year now and it's preformance has held up. I have change the star rating from 3 to 4. I continue to challege the equipment I take motorcycling and so far this is the best tent at the pricing point. There are now three of us using the tent on rallies. I think I have had the most difficulties. The split/fractures poles are still holding up. When the one I own wears out I plan on buying another one.

Few things are as aggravating as setting up a tent in rainy or windy weather. Now you can avoid the frustration with the Wind Ridge instant tent, which sets up in only three seconds. The tent's revolutionary central hub system--which is built entirely from recycled material--is a breeze to use.

The Wind Ridge tent sets up in only 3 seconds. Simply pull the top of the tent upward and the strong flexi poles immediately snap into place. No more fussing with confusing instructions or trying to figure out how to snap the tent fabric to the tent poles. Fortunately, an easy-to-set-up design isn't the only thing the Wind Ridge has going for it. The three-season, three-person tent also offers a double-layer door, a double-layer window, and two starlight windows, giving you plenty of ventilation while you sleep. The tent will also keep you dry should the rain continue to poor, with a quick-attaching waterproof rainfly and a bathtub tarp bottom to prevent flooding and splashing. The Wind Ridge even includes a power access slot, so you can run power into the tent and plug in a light source, a small heater, or other electrical item.
Other features include a gear loft, side pockets, two big shoe pockets accessible from both outside and inside, sturdy ground stakes, and a durable nylon carrying bag with handles. Tested to survive the most challenging weather conditions, the Wind Ridge measures 82 by 51 by 82 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 8.5 pounds. The tent carries a one-year warranty.

Sierra Designs Sirius 3 Three-Person Three-Season Tent Review

Sierra Designs Sirius 3 Three-Person Three-Season Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The tent is as lightweight as they come for backpacking. For this, where weight is traded off vs size, it is the best and cheapest choice of any tent. However light, it is bulky, and does not easily fit in a backpack. It fills too much of my 5500 backpack, leaving little room for else but a bag and a pad. This is a one man, one child 43 sq ft tent. Two adults could fit, if they are short like me and not shy.Forget three of any age.

When car camping, a larger tent is called for. This is not a big tent.Three people? No (comfortable) way for 3 Homo Sapiens. Three Homo Floresiensis would fit in nicely, but alas, Hobbits are extinct so this isn't for them.I slept with my 11 year old son one night only, and it was tight and the backpacks slept outside.Cannot imagine how even another 11 year old would have squeezed in, let alone a grown up.I'm 5'8", and I touch both ends.I've tried angling my body diagonally to get the few needed inches of room.Another 6" of length is really needed for side sleepers, even for someone as vertically challenged as 5'8" me.

Two other complaints.First, the zipper catches at the half way mark most every time which is annoying and requires two hands to open & close.Second, the door is too low, forcing this mid 40's body to contort to enter and exit in ways that 4+ decades of damage did not intend.

Complaints aside, the material is clearly quality. The alluminum poles are excellent, the rain fly and copious no see um netting is top drawer. And it looks really nice!Set up and take down is as fast as possible for any tent. The floor is THIN! Buy the footprint! For backpacking, took 2 30 gallon garbage bags slit along the seams to replace the 15 oz footprint, which reduced 12 oz and worked about as well!

The large quantity of mesh is love it or leave it. I like it.It will ventilate nicely, leaving not a drop of condensation on the inside roof in the morn but will let in some wind if positioned incorrectly.Tents don't hold heat anyways, that is what a quality bag is for.

If you are backpacking for two, then this is the tent to beat.

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Original Size Tent Cot (Green) Review

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Original Size Tent Cot
Average Reviews:

This is a great tent.It works as described, however it has a few problems: the headroom is very low, I stand 5'5", and although I could sit up in it hunched over, my head would brush the top (not fun in the morning with cold dew). The 2 legs really aren't enough for good balance, I tipped it lengthwise while moving around in my apartment, so on the campsite I was extra careful not to get too close to one end.

The foam mat on mine was heavily bent at the joints, forming a low spot which was a bit uncomfortable. Also, you will need some sort of extra lining under your bag as it gets very cold down there.

Besides that, one of the best nights Ive ever had camping.I found myself somewhat creeping to one end and hitting the small side with my head. Fortunately its long enough to slide back towards the middle.I was able to lay in it and change my pants, but it wasn't easy.

I suggest going with the oversize which has the dome top, its only a little bit bigger when folded up but I'm going to bet that dome will be better at directing rain/dew away, and will allow you to sit up and not hit the roof.Everybody asked me what the hell it was, and lots of people said they thought they would like to try one out.

Eureka Headquarters Luxury Family 12-Foot by 8.5-Foot Six-Person Two-Room Tent Review

Eureka Headquarters Luxury Family 12-Foot by 8.5-Foot Six-Person Two-Room Tent
Average Reviews:

We have owned this tent for about 7 years, and have camped in it for about 60 nights. We sleep 4, with luggage. It has been remarkably weather-worthy, having been through many rainy days. The first night we slept in it as family there was a monster thunderstorm, yet were dry. Just last week we slept in the tent while about 2-1/2 inches of rain fell overnight. After setting it up once it is quite easy. Two people can put it up in less than 10 minutes. The ventilation is very good, virtually turning into a screen house when windows and doors are unzipped.

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.
Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

I needed this tent for Back-Packing the "Northern Forests"of North-East Michigan. I was happy with the light-weight & compact portability.
I Gave it 4 stars because it leaked during a thunder-storm & even light-rain thenext day. It wasmy fault for not applying a "Tent-Dry" Product upon the tent prior to taking it into the bush. However, it didn't just leak...It was a FLOOD..I practically floated on my sleeping mat, while my trusty canine companion got soaked. I was bailing water like a life-boat @ sea!
No tent should leak that much, even with-out tent-dry.--Tent was delivered fast & The Quality Construction was very-good & it was roomy enough for my golden Lab, myself & my Gear [Which also got wet].-This is a good tent for the bush ,just don't forget to "Water-proof" W/ a good product.
